Ghetto Xanadu

Saturday night instead of heading out to über shady Blü, I went roller skating for the first time in years with Amiee, Marsha, and Mark. My attitude was pretty much set on hater mode and ready to get bored quickly, but to my surprise I actually had a decent time. Mainly I was excited that I didn't fall on my ass or crush some tiny pre-teen. The place was really ghetto, but it had a mirror ball so I cooped.

Our group caught the eye of the DJ, since we weren't regulars and we were way passed the age of 14. Amiee went on to flaunt our oldness even more when she requested some New Kids on the Block jam, which was totally shameful.

Afterwards we headed to my place and ordered food and played a game or two while I got a sufficient buzz with 3 screwdrivers and agreed to join them on a 3k doggy walk the next day.

The dog walk was interesting, especially the getting lost part, whatever it was some decent exercise. Well I need to head to bed since I have to get up early and finish my final exam for my World Order and Globalization class. Salut :)

Baby Mama Drama

Last night after Michael got out of work, he and I met up with our new lesbo friends de jour, Amie (last night Amie corrected me on the spelling of her name) and Marsha, to go see the new Tina Fey flick, Baby Mama.

First we headed over to Red Robin and Michael and I split a hamburger. After our late dinner we headed over to the theater. I personally have never been a big fan of going to the movies on the weekend only because of the amount of hormonal dirty teenagers that loiter around such establishments, but since the movie wasn't playing until 11:40pm, most of the kids were gone by the time we left the burger joint.

I was a little nervous at first when the film started. With 30Rock there is sometimes a dry wit that not every one can tap into and find humorous, but quickly into the movie every one was laughing, which makes it a much more enjoyable to watch. Baby Mama was very funny, and Amy Poehler and Tina Fey have a really great chemistry. It gets a gold star from me.

After the movie was done we headed over to Walgreen's so Michael to get some Listerine for his dental hygiene issues. Well, that is it for now. Tonight we are heading out to Blü to go dancing. Hopefully it won't be a huge suck fest. Salut :)

New Thing

I decided that I am going to do a post a least once a week which features an art work from an artist I like or admire. I'm going to call the post Art Minute and hopefully I will be able to try and explain the purpose or idea behind the piece or what the artist was attempting to translate. Hopefully this will keep up my Art History side of my brain going through out the summer until next semester. I don't want all my knew found knowledge sitting around collecting cobwebs. So, that explains that. Salut :)

Farwell Ladies

So, as I mentioned in a previous blog about feeling down. Well, the reason behind that was that two of the best professors I have had so far at Clark and to be more frank my academic career, are leaving at the end of the spring semester. While the news is heart breaking for me and my classmates, I think there is an even greater tragedy to the Art History department and future Clark Students. I think one of the main issues now is that the Art History department will lack the full spectrum of panversity that art history has to offer.

I've learned so much from both Prof. Burns and Prof. Lepage in my brief time as their student, I wonder how much more knowledge I could have acquired if I was able to remain under their tutelage. They both will be great assets to the institutions that are smart enough to hold on to them. So this posting is dedicated to Prof. Lepage and Prof. Burns, two one of a kind Ladies.

Kinda Mean But Totally Funny

I haven't been feeling all that great today, but this perked me up. I know it is going to make me look bad that I find humor in it, but you have to admit it is funny.

Disco Inferno NOT!

Friday night, Michael, Amy, Marsha, and I all went out to Blü for their Studio 54 night. I was so looking forward to partying like it was 1975, but to my misfortune the era of glam, mirror balls, and multi-colored leisure suits were not to be found.

A Disco Inferno it was not, the flame was tepid at best. I hold the DJ fully responsible for this. Many a pop song have given praise to the DJ for saving lives and giving joy. DJ Mike Electra, who was spinning the tunes on Friday, was strangling that joy for me. Maybe, it was the fact that he was young, so there by unappreciative of the music that really helped pioneer electronica and dance pop, but when the dance floor is empty it might be time to hang up your head phones and let someone do the spinning.

Only three songs from the 70's was played that whole night. It made me wonder if Mike Electra even knew what Studio 54 was. Plus, when my friend Amy went up and requested Madonna's 4 Minutes, the DJ fulfilled her request, but with some botched up remix that was terrible and hard to dance to. The whole night was a bust for me, very disappointing and lack luster especially when compared to the White Party event. The only upside was watching some poor, tragic, drunk girl make a fool of herself on the dance floor. She was a second away from being in a Girls Gone Wild video. Either way Mike Electra blew hard core and should be banished from the booth for eternity. I mean how can you have a Studio 54 night without DISCO????

Part of Your World

On Sunday Michael bought the Broadway Cast Recording of The Little Mermaid, the new musical on Broadway. Since then I have been listening to it non-stop. It has all the great songs from the film and some really great new ones.

The only negative thing I have to say is, that, I still have a preference for the actress who did Ursala's voice in the film rather than musical. Her deep raspy vocals just made Ursala sound even more villainous.

Otherwise I think the music is great, and I would really love to see the whole thing on stage. Here are some of my favorite songs:
