Next Monday will be the premiere of RuPaul's new show RuPaul's Drag Race. It is going to be some tranny hotness on the runway. I've been a huge fan of RuPaul since I was a kid. I remember watching her talk show on VH1 and loving it, not to mention her records which are on consistent play on my iPod.

I've never done drag myself, but I have always had a fascination with the ladies that really know how to work it and RuPaul is the Queen of them all. Anyway, check out her new show Feb. 2 on Logo.

weird run-ins

The other night Michael, LC, and myself were down at the Abbey and had a strange run-in. We were enjoying some delicious martinis when I noticed that the group directly next to us was made up of a former colleague and her click of friends.

This was not the part that made it strange, but rather when both LC and myself realized that we knew the male companion of the small group. My former colleague came over to our table and chatted for a bit once she realized that she knew me as well. It was at the point it dawned on me that the male within her posse was none other then our nude model from last semesters drawing class.

Now I am not a prude by any means, but there is a strange weirdness that happens when you spend days examining someones body, an almost fake sense of intimacy occurs. Needless to say when you run into this person in the real world that intimacy is striped and you just have deal with the fact that this person is a total stranger, yet you have seen them in their birthday suit. So, just to acknowledge the elephant in the room I addressed the fact that I didn't recognize him with so many layers on.

no cash cab but still fun

This past weekend my better half, LC, and I headed out to Fusion for a night of dancing and then greasy dinner food at the Kenmore. While the music selection at the club was slightly disappointing in comparison to last weekend, we did end up with our own personal concert on the way home.

After leaving the dinner we decided to call a cab, rather than walk from the Canal district back to the Abbey and were pleasantly surprised to get a serenade during our cab ride. The cab driver, who shall remain nameless, picked us up and after I inquired about the trumpet on the passenger seat began to pick it up and play an accompaniment to the jazz station he was listening to. The first song he played was "Mercy Mercy Mercy" which I sang along to. He was a really nice guy and did not even turn on the meter as we made our way to the Abbey. Just one of those random experiences in the world I guess.

If You Seek Britney

So, I never really discussed the amazing "comeback" of my dear Brit Brit. I've been jamming to Circus nonstop and I love it. Well, there are some people out there that still trash Ms. Spears for her vocal short comings I found the Circus album to allow her to play with her rang without the over reliance on vocoder.

She sounds alert and coherent on this album, opposed to her previous effort, Blackout. While Blackout was a hot mess of club bangers it lacked that essential quality that Britney brings to her records. The album felt cold and processed while Circus at least has the feel of Britney aware of her surroundings and being comfortable taking back on the mantle of Pop Princess.

The song selection on Circus is probably the strongest in comparison to her previous efforts. While there is some filler, the majority of the tracks even if not obvious a-sides still packs a bunch or is slightly experimental. Take for instance the song "Mmm Papi," it is fun and playful and infectious without a killer hook.

The Bloodshy & Avant produced track "Unusual You" is probably one of my favorite tracks. While Britney's ballads have never been a highlight of her albums, this sonic ballad is both beautiful and bittersweet and a great change of pace for Britney. I think it is plain that I really love the album and I'm ecstatic to see Britney back in shape after a very hard and bumpy road.

This past weekend myself a few other went out to Fusion, a lounge/nightclub on water street. Considering the dismal state of night life in Worcester Fusion is a slight blimp of goodness on the radar. Granted we are talking about Worcester so thinks tend to be graded on a scale, but the aesthetics were decent and the music that was played was far superior than Blu Ultralounge.

Prior to heading over to Fusion, we checked out Club Red on Pleasant St. After paying a ridiculous cover charge and getting patted down because because I might have concealed a weapon up my bits or something the music was highly disappointing. I appreciated the attempt at cultivating a certain aesthetic, but the ratio or 40 something men to teenage girls was a little disconcerting. Needless to say we rolled out after half-hour later and headed to Fusion.

Today I just bought tickets to go see my new pop idol Lady GaGa in concert. This chick is ah-mazing!! America is finally starting to recognize the greatness that is GaGa with her current single "Just Dance" #1 on the billboard charts and I am loving it. When I found out she was going on tour I knew there was no way in hell I was passing up a chance to see her live in action.

She will be playing at the House of Blues in Boston this coming March and I will be there screaming and singing along to all of her music. Honestly, her album The Fame is pure pop bliss. The moment I heard her single "Just Dance" released this summer I knew she would be a force to be reckon with even if it took a while for the general public to catch on with her fabulousness. Can't wait to see her work it all out live. Personally, I really want to take a ride on her "disco stick."

I know I know, I've been horrible, but classes start up next week and I will get back to regular posts about my interesting life.
