umm Lady GaGa

First she was going on tour with Kayne West, who yes is a total douche, but still makes good music, and I was so excited to get tickets and see them both perform. I think both of their musical aesthetics would compliment the other. Then that tour was canceled. But, the Lady that is GaGa rose from the ashes and announced a new solo tour. Again I was so excited at the prospect to see her again on tour, but I was resigned to the fact that I most likely would not be able to attend this concert.

As fate would have it, M actually got me tickets to see the show in December but felt he had to tell me early so I could rearrange my schedule. I couldn't be more excited to see her since this will be the second time I have seen Lady GaGa this year. I saw her first tour, The Fame Ball, back in March, and now will be seeing, The Monster Ball, in December. I'm already addicted to her new single Bad Romance, and can't wait to see it performed live.

big bang theory

Big Bang / With U

This is a video from my current pop obsession, Korean boy band, Big Bang. Randomly surfing on youtube for Uhm Jun Hwa videos I came across the group. One of the boys, T.O.P., raps on Uhm's hit D.I.S.C.O. Anyway, I'm totally in love with this video and the song. The band members are G-Dragon, T.O.P., Tae Young, Dae Sung, Seung Ri. I ended up searching for their music and now have their two English language albums.

madonna and child

Check out the new images from Madonna's photo shoot for the new issue of W Magazine. Apparently the shoot was inspired by the film the Graduate. The young model, Jesus Luz, is also rumored to be Madonna's current love interest. I doubt the irony of Madonn and Jesus has been lost on the material girl. Hotness!

b o u n d to art

This past Wednesday I attended the opening of a new exhibition at Clark titled " bound." The exhibition shows the work of sculpture Diana Cherbuliez, painter Naoe Suzuki, and installation artist Marguerite White. All three artists, working in their different respective mediums, confront ideas around the term bound and the idea of bondage versus infinite possibility and space. One of the artists, Marguerite White, is a personal friend and I was thrilled to see her work in relation to the work of Diana and Naoe.

White's installation piece which consisted of charcoal drawings of taxidermy birds, chalk drawn boxes, and silhouettes, titled "Archive" was an interesting look at the idea go between life and death transitional space. Images that reflect birds in flight while frozen and death and restricted to the boundaries of the paper, were an interesting juxtaposition to the small delicate paintings of Suzuki of conjoined twins. Cherbuliez's bridges and other sculptures were mind boggling in their intricacy and obsessive quality. The opening was a great success and I was thrilled to go out with them after the show for drinks and talk more about their work and other generalities.

Check out some of the images below from the show:

rando connections

So, last week I got a phone call from a really old friend of mine. I had totally forgotten that I had ran into her sister a week or so a go outside of Fusion and had given her my number to pass along to her sister. Needless to say when my brash friend called me out of the blue I was a little bewildered until I pieced it all together.

Anyway, it was great catching up with each other and hopefully we will stay in contact more often. Though I swear the phone call was a little serendipitous because my old BFF informed me that she is seriously considering going through the process of becoming a man. This had been like the fourth time I had a conversation that week about f2m transsexuals and now a friend was reveling her own inclination transform their gender. Not that it was a huge shock, I always suspected and even asked her point blank about it many years ago. Either way I am happy for her and hope it all works out.
I just hope she doesn't take it all to seriously like a lot of f2m and haves some fun with it. Speaking of which, how annoying is Max on the L word? I can't deal with his storyline any more!!

see wall shake

Last night I went out to Boston to attend the opening of artist Tim Murdoch's sculpture exhibition "See Wall." I've known Tim for a while, he teaches at Clark, but I had yet to actually see any of his work. I went to the opening with our mutual friend fellow artist Marguerite White.

The opening took place in South Boston at the FPCA Gallery on Summer Street. Tim Incorporated industrial bed springs as bases and then tops them with mirrors. These are all connected to motors that cause the mirror to shake and vibrate, creating a buzzing noise. When the mirrors did begin to shake it creating an unsettling experience causing you to do a double take to make sure you saw what you thought you saw. The mirrors were activate by a motion detector that caught pedestrian movement on the street above.

The other art in the gallery was annoying. The artists that was exhibiting with Tim's sculptural installation used large digital prints of extreme closeups of colored sand. Boring! No matter how large you can make a picture, it doesn't make it any more interesting. Also, the sand color was digitally enhanced and looked like it came from those tacky sand bottles people keep in their bathrooms. Plus the presentation was very sloppy with bulletin board style tacks holding up the paper to the wall.

Check out some more pictures of Tim's installation below:

This is one busy nine-month old baby, watch as he is left alone for four hours and touches and crawls all about the room. It totally put a smile on my face.

supermodel of the world

Check out these hot pictures of the fabulous RuPaul from the new issue of HX magazine. Girl is looking hot an fierce. She knows how to give good face.

Next Monday will be the premiere of RuPaul's new show RuPaul's Drag Race. It is going to be some tranny hotness on the runway. I've been a huge fan of RuPaul since I was a kid. I remember watching her talk show on VH1 and loving it, not to mention her records which are on consistent play on my iPod.

I've never done drag myself, but I have always had a fascination with the ladies that really know how to work it and RuPaul is the Queen of them all. Anyway, check out her new show Feb. 2 on Logo.

weird run-ins

The other night Michael, LC, and myself were down at the Abbey and had a strange run-in. We were enjoying some delicious martinis when I noticed that the group directly next to us was made up of a former colleague and her click of friends.

This was not the part that made it strange, but rather when both LC and myself realized that we knew the male companion of the small group. My former colleague came over to our table and chatted for a bit once she realized that she knew me as well. It was at the point it dawned on me that the male within her posse was none other then our nude model from last semesters drawing class.

Now I am not a prude by any means, but there is a strange weirdness that happens when you spend days examining someones body, an almost fake sense of intimacy occurs. Needless to say when you run into this person in the real world that intimacy is striped and you just have deal with the fact that this person is a total stranger, yet you have seen them in their birthday suit. So, just to acknowledge the elephant in the room I addressed the fact that I didn't recognize him with so many layers on.
"On the 36th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, we are reminded that this decision not only protects women’s health and reproductive freedom, but stands for a broader principle: that government should not intrude on our most private family matters. I remain committed to protecting a woman’s right to choose.
While this is a sensitive and often divisive issue, no matter what our views, we are united in our determination to prevent unintended pregnancies, reduce the need for abortion, and support women and families in the choices they make. To accomplish these goals, we must work to find common ground to expand access to affordable contraception, accurate health information, and preventative services.
On this anniversary, we must also recommit ourselves more broadly to ensuring that our daughters have the same rights and opportunities as our sons: the chance to attain a world-class education; to have fulfilling careers in any industry; to be treated fairly and paid equally for their work; and to have no limits on their dreams. That is what I want for women everywhere.”

no cash cab but still fun

This past weekend my better half, LC, and I headed out to Fusion for a night of dancing and then greasy dinner food at the Kenmore. While the music selection at the club was slightly disappointing in comparison to last weekend, we did end up with our own personal concert on the way home.

After leaving the dinner we decided to call a cab, rather than walk from the Canal district back to the Abbey and were pleasantly surprised to get a serenade during our cab ride. The cab driver, who shall remain nameless, picked us up and after I inquired about the trumpet on the passenger seat began to pick it up and play an accompaniment to the jazz station he was listening to. The first song he played was "Mercy Mercy Mercy" which I sang along to. He was a really nice guy and did not even turn on the meter as we made our way to the Abbey. Just one of those random experiences in the world I guess.

If You Seek Britney

So, I never really discussed the amazing "comeback" of my dear Brit Brit. I've been jamming to Circus nonstop and I love it. Well, there are some people out there that still trash Ms. Spears for her vocal short comings I found the Circus album to allow her to play with her rang without the over reliance on vocoder.

She sounds alert and coherent on this album, opposed to her previous effort, Blackout. While Blackout was a hot mess of club bangers it lacked that essential quality that Britney brings to her records. The album felt cold and processed while Circus at least has the feel of Britney aware of her surroundings and being comfortable taking back on the mantle of Pop Princess.

The song selection on Circus is probably the strongest in comparison to her previous efforts. While there is some filler, the majority of the tracks even if not obvious a-sides still packs a bunch or is slightly experimental. Take for instance the song "Mmm Papi," it is fun and playful and infectious without a killer hook.

The Bloodshy & Avant produced track "Unusual You" is probably one of my favorite tracks. While Britney's ballads have never been a highlight of her albums, this sonic ballad is both beautiful and bittersweet and a great change of pace for Britney. I think it is plain that I really love the album and I'm ecstatic to see Britney back in shape after a very hard and bumpy road.

Favorite Tracks:
Unusual You
Circus
Womanizer
Kill The Lights
If You Seek Amy

just dance

This past weekend myself a few other went out to Fusion, a lounge/nightclub on water street. Considering the dismal state of night life in Worcester Fusion is a slight blimp of goodness on the radar. Granted we are talking about Worcester so thinks tend to be graded on a scale, but the aesthetics were decent and the music that was played was far superior than Blu Ultralounge.

Prior to heading over to Fusion, we checked out Club Red on Pleasant St. After paying a ridiculous cover charge and getting patted down because because I might have concealed a weapon up my bits or something the music was highly disappointing. I appreciated the attempt at cultivating a certain aesthetic, but the ratio or 40 something men to teenage girls was a little disconcerting. Needless to say we rolled out after half-hour later and headed to Fusion.

Here is some of the music I jammed to at Fusion:
Circus - Britney Spears
Single Ladies (Put Your Hands Up) - Beyoncé
Distrubia - Rhianna
Love Lockown - Kayne West
Show Me Love - Robin S.

cherry cherry boom boom

Today I just bought tickets to go see my new pop idol Lady GaGa in concert. This chick is ah-mazing!! America is finally starting to recognize the greatness that is GaGa with her current single "Just Dance" #1 on the billboard charts and I am loving it. When I found out she was going on tour I knew there was no way in hell I was passing up a chance to see her live in action.

She will be playing at the House of Blues in Boston this coming March and I will be there screaming and singing along to all of her music. Honestly, her album The Fame is pure pop bliss. The moment I heard her single "Just Dance" released this summer I knew she would be a force to be reckon with even if it took a while for the general public to catch on with her fabulousness. Can't wait to see her work it all out live. Personally, I really want to take a ride on her "disco stick."
